Now that the peak flu season is right around the corner, ask your doctor if you’re an appropriate candidate for a vaccination, if you haven’t already gotten one.
But if the flu winds up striking you or yours, don’t just take it—fight back with garlic! Here’s how the heroic herb can help boost your immune system and control your symptoms:
· Treat yourself to a soothing foot rub: Apply a thin coat of olive oil to the soles of your feet, followed by a rubdown with the cut side of a clove of garlic. Then slip on a thick pair of socks, and get to bed—pronto! When you wake up, you’ll feel a whole lot better—guaranteed!
· Reach for a few more cloves of garlic, chop ‘em up, and toss ‘em into your favorite hot soup. Or whip up a batch of this recipe—it’ll ease stress, restore energy, and reduce fatigue so you’ll be on the road to recovery in no time at all:
· Mix 2 teaspoons of miso paste, 2 cloves of garlic (crushed), 1 tablespoon of grated onion, and 1 teaspoon of vinegar in a large mug or soup bowl. Pour 1 cup of hot vegetable broth over the potent concoction, stir to mix, and sip your troubles away.
· Make a batch of this elixir now so you’ll have it on hand when you need to calm a cough and clear out a stuffy nose. Layer 12 chopped cloves of garlic alternately with layers of granulated sugar. Cover, and let it steep for two days while the sugar pulls the liquid out of the garlic. Strain the juice through a piece of cheesecloth, and take it by the tablespoonful every few hours to calm your cough.
