Happy Valentine’s Day!

If you’re lucky enough to have a sweetie who gives you cut flowers for Valentine’s Day, you’ll want to keep those extra-special blooms lookin’ good, well, for a good long time! Start by placing the arrangement in a batch of my Cut Flower-Saver Solution:

Mix 1 cup of lemon-lime soda (not diet), ¼ teaspoon of bleach, and 3 cups of warm water in an old container, and pour the solution into a clean vase. Add more solution as needed every few days to keep the water level topped off. You’ll be amazed at how long your cut flowers look fabulous!

And if you want to keep those extra special blooms as a keepsake, try drying them. Just mix 3 cups of borax and 1 cup of cornmeal in a sealable container, place fresh flowers in the container, and cover them with the mixture. Let them stand for four to five days, then you’ll be able to enjoy the dried blooms long after Valentine’s Day has come and gone.
